This is a PT position approximately 20 hours per week.
MAPL is seeking a professional with a strong understanding of the evolving role of libraries and information systems to assist with customer service and programming.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan and present effective youth services programs primarily for (but not limited to) children 0-13 years of age. Readily assist with teen and adult programs.
• Provide prompt, accurate assistance for patrons in utilizing library resources and services.
• Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate library services and collections.
• Carry out Readers’ Advisory services, formal communications, and public presentations.
• Read reviews, bibliographies and other sources in order to plan, promote, implement, recommend, and evaluate department collections, programs, activities, exhibits, and displays.
• Select, organize, weed, and maintain library materials as assigned.
• Establish and maintain relationships with local schools, agencies, and organizations.
• Prepare and compile reports and statistics reflecting youth services activities.
• Conduct library tours.
• Related duties as assigned by the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Thorough knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
• Demonstrated experience with youth services, including but not limited to Summer Reading programs, story time, displays, collection development, and emerging technologies.
• Demonstrated proficiency in use of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Front Page, as well as use of internet, email, and databases.
• Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with others.
• Knowledge of library automations systems.
• Degree in Library Science, English Literature, or Elementary Education preferred.
OTHER:
• Ability to occasionally lift lightweight objects (up to 25 pounds) and push book carts (up to 50 pounds), bend, reach, and stoop in order to provide general assistance.
• Valid PA driver’s license needed to attend meetings and presentations.
• Ability to work flexible schedule as needed, including weekend and evening hours. One evening/week and one weekend/month required.
