Andrew Carnegie gave the City of Pittsburgh an irreplaceable gift – a library system that is not simply about books, but about the people and communities in which we live. It is now our responsibility to see that his passion is extended to a new generation. We’re looking for someone to join our dynamic executive team that will implement new directions for the Library, including:

Envision and implement new models of library service, considering such issues as: broad access to electronic content and devices; the need for place, space and social interaction in a digital world; methods to engage all ages in all aspects of literacy and learning and the role of a community repository of information and history.

Coach and mentor eager, creative and talented staff at all levels and in all roles in the provision of quality library service.

Foster a culture of community engagement, ensuring that the people we serve know and understand the value of the library in their lives and see a place for themselves in shaping this important community asset.

Align the library’s services with the priorities of our city and region, finding a seat at the table where important decisions are made and using these opportunities to share the Library’s story with new audiences in new contexts.

Increase and diversify our revenue sources, by transforming the important and impactful experiences that people have at the library into incentives for increased funding from traditional and nontraditional sources.

Qualified applicants will have earned an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited university with ten years of related experience, including progressive management experience in library administration and significant experience with urban library systems.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh offers a competitive benefits package and the opportunity to enjoy Pittsburgh, one of America’s Most Literate and Livable Cities.

To learn more about Pittsburgh, its library system, this position, and how to apply, please visit www.JuneGarcia.com or contact June Garcia at June@JuneGarcia.com. Applications received by April 17, 2012 will receive first consideration, but the search process will remain open until the position is filled.
