Job Objective: Within the PA State Library Code and under policy guidance and direction from the board, the Library Director performs professional and administrative duties in planning, development, fundraising, implementing and directing public library services for the German-Masontown Public Library. These duties include, but are not limited to: budget preparation and management; training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating personnel; collection development and management; developing and maintaining full knowledge of the library’s automated system and system software; coordinating and scheduling programs for children and adults; representing the library at district meetings and trainings; leading community relations and overseeing facility maintenance. The Library Director is the liaison with the library board of directors, the library system and district, municipalities, schools and other funding bodies.
Overview of Library/Community: The German-Masontown Public Library is open 35 hours per week and serves a population of 9,430 residents. The library is a not-for-profit corporation, is governed by a 7-member board and employs a staff of three (including the director). The collection size is approximately 30,000 items. The library must meet PA Library Code Standards for System Member Libraries. Operational financial support includes state, county and municipal funding, as well as private gifts, donations and grants.
The library is a member of the 3-county (Fayette, Greene & Washington) WAGGIN Network, providing one-library card and access to over 1 million items through the Polaris Software.
Located off of Route 21 along Route 166 in Fayette County, the library was founded to serve the residents of German Township and Masontown Borough and is physically located in the center of Masontown’s revitalization efforts. The town is focused on recruiting new businesses and improving its commercial building stock. Community events include holiday parades and festivals, community-wide yard sales and fundraising events to help pay for the family-focused activities in the town.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with at least of 12 Library Science credits (semester hours) or a willingness to obtain the 12 Library Science credits. Above average computer and technology skills is a must. The successful applicant will also have superb organizational and communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a PA Public Library Provisional level certification or greater. FBI, PA Criminal History and Child Abuse clearances required.
Salary: The Library Director is a 30 hours per week position; some evenings and weekends required. Starting Salary: $13.00/hour; benefits include 10 days of personal time off along with paid holidays. Mileage reimbursement will be provided for library-related meetings.
