Library Director – Greensburg Hempfield Area Library

The Greensburg Hempfield Area Library (GHAL) Board of Trustees is seeking a Library Director who is a passionate, motivated individual to lead the library in its new mission: to enrich our community by promoting literacy and fostering lifelong learning.

The ideal candidate will be a forward-thinking, community oriented leader who will guide the library into a new age of library services.  S/he must be strongly focused on customer service and be willing to incorporate new library trends and technology into the day-to-day operations of the library.  The new Director will be expected to be highly engaged with the community, foster innovation and teamwork with staff members, model and foster life-long learning, have fundraising and grant writing experience, and encourage and implement technological advances in the library.  The Library Director will be responsible for the hiring, supervision, training and evaluation of full and half-time staff members and volunteers.

The Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, located approximately 30 miles Southeast from Pittsburgh in the city of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, is the public library for approximately 70,000. While the GHAL is a nonprofit corporation and has no formal legal ties to any municipality, it is recognized by the state of Pennsylvania as the public library serving the communities and citizens of the Greensburg Salem School District, Hempfield Area School District, the city of Greensburg, Hempfield Township, the boroughs and/or municipalities of Southwest Greensburg, South Greensburg, New Stanton, and Youngwood. The library’s governing body, the Board of Trustees, is comprised of individuals who live in the areas served by the library and representatives from the supporting local governments and school districts.

 

Required Education:

Master of Library Science from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) Institution?

 

Required Experience:

Candidates should have prior success and experience in managing a large public library, and in working with personnel, local officials, and community leaders.  Candidates should be experienced and successful in budgeting, grant writing, and in both short and long-term planning.  Candidates must possess strong organization, communication, marketing, and computer skills, and have interpersonal and supervisory competency.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is between $52,000 and $65,000 and will be commensurate with the individual’s qualifications and experience.  Full benefits.
