Green Tree Public Library, a progressive and busy library about three miles outside downtown Pittsburgh, is looking to hire a part-time front desk clerk. Do you like books? That’s great! Even more important, do you like PEOPLE? Because this job is all about meeting the needs of a diverse population.
Our front desk clerks are the face of the library. They do everything from unjamming printers and checking out stacks and stacks of materials to customers to cutting out 30 cupcake crafts for next week’s storytime to answering questions about everything under the sun. We are looking for someone who can roll with the punches and think on their feet, someone who would never respond “I don’t know” to a question without elaborating and someone who recognizes that libraries are no longer the quiet, passive places of yesteryear. Computer skills, basic knowledge of literary trends and a sense of fun and friendliness are a must.
This is a part-time position for 20 hours a week. The position requires working weekdays, evenings and some Saturdays. The candidate who is selected will need to obtain PA Child Abuse/FBI Clearances and successfully pass a criminal background check before getting started. A high school diploma is required.
For the right person, this position would be a stellar opportunity to gain library experience and join an award-winning team. (Did you know that Green Tree Public Library was named a Star Library by Library Journal five times?) Though we like to keep our talent around for as long as possible, there have been many times where our staff have gone on to secure full-time jobs in libraries, including our own.
To apply, please email your cover letter and resume to Adaena Tray, Library Director, at email@example.com by Friday, March 24. No phone calls, please.
