Reference and Instruction Librarian – Monroeville Public Library

The Monroeville Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-service-oriented individual to fill a full-time Reference and instruction position.

The Reference and Instruction Librarian will offer information services to the general public. This includes assisting the public with finding library materials, instructing patrons on how to use informational tools and technology, providing reader’s advisory service, and providing reference and research assistance.

This work involves assisting patrons with finding information and in using library materials, equipment, and computers programs when needed. This position will include covering the Reference Desk, teaching computer classes, and tutoring patrons in computer and gadget usage both in and outside the Library.

Work will include updating of library records, processing of materials, shelving, the use of the computer system, and the weeding and replacement of materials. Employee will assist with programing and outreach when appropriate. This employee will also perform other related work as assigned.

General computer skills required, Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from a graduate library program accredited by the American Library Association required, some education or library experience preferred, and knowledge of computer systems and “gadget” technology (iPads, e-readers, etc.).

Work schedule includes at least one evening a week and one weekend a month.

PA State Police Criminal record check, PA Child Abuse History clearance and FBI fingerprints are required to begin work.

Monroeville Residency is required within one year – no exceptions.

Job Type: Full-Time (40 Hr/ Week)
Salary: $32,400
