Tool Library Intern – Millvale Community Library

posted in: Employment Opportunities | 0

Seeking: Communications and Library Science majors
Time commitment: 5-10 hours/week

Just as a traditional library lends books, the Tool Library lends tools—power tools, bike tools, gardening tools, and much more. A new project of the Millvale Community Library, the Tool Library is open to library card holders in the Pittsburgh area and throughout Allegheny Country. Our goal is to promote self-sufficiency, reduce waste, and empower individuals and community groups.

The Tool Library launched in the summer of 2018. We seek an intern who can assist patrons as well as help us with promotion and membership development. In specific, an intern might improve and utilize our social media; launch a “tool buddy” mentorship system; write and lay out a newsletter, and organize workshops. We are not looking for an expert in tools—you don’t even have to be handy!—though you will certainly have the chance to learn more about tools. The Millvale library is a tight community of staff and patrons.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm for public outreach
  • Experience using social media
  • Experience or willingness to learn how to use Mailchimp and Canva
  • Experience or willingness to learn about tools and how to maintain them
