The Battle of the North

On April 12, 2018, eight libraries of the ACLA North Region offered the first Adult Battle of the Books. Twenty-eight teams packed Sieb’s Pub & Restaurant on Babcock Boulevard and were ready for battle.

Libraries Support Kindergarten Readiness

Libraries play a critical role in the kindergarten readiness and transition process.  They promote early literacy and kindergarten readiness skills in programming, encourage family engagement, and help children learn (when a parent, guardian or formal preschool is not present). They also serve as key liaisons to underserved populations during this milestone transition.

Huge Response to Love Your Library Month

Now in its second year, “Love Your Library,” a county-wide initiative developed by the Allegheny County Library Association and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, provided a way for residents to “show their love” to their local library. During the month of September, all donations made to more than 46 area library systems went even further.

Recognition for Allegheny County Libraries

PA Forward Star Libraries -In 2017, the Pennsylvania Library Association launched their PA Forward Star Library program to raise awareness of library programs and offerings that help Pennsylvania citizens improve their command of five types of literacy – basic, information, civic & social, health, and financial.

Summer Activities at County Libraries

Summer is always a busy time at libraries and 2017 was no different. Libraries in Allegheny County provided numerous opportunities for children to explore the world, ignite imaginations and discover everything that the library has to offer.

ACLA Launches New Youth Services Kits for Library Use

Allegheny County Library Association’s New Preschool Bookmobile

Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), along with distinguished guests unveiled its newest bookmobile of the non-profit organization’s fleet on September 11th. County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Regional Asset District Chairman Dan Griffin were joined by dozens of preschool students and community members for the ceremony and tour of the new bookmobile.

Workforce Development and STEM are Focus of Legislative Grant

The Allegheny County Library Association was fortunate to receive a Legislative Grant for $100,000 through Senator Joseph Scarnati with assistance from Senator Guy Reschenthaler. The funds from the grant were to provide training and resources in the areas of Workforce Development and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
