National Library Week 2019, Libraries = Strong Communities

The Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) joined libraries throughout Pennsylvania and the country in celebrating National Library Week – April 7 – 13, 2019. The week allowed residents to discover the changing role of libraries within our communities and to dispel the notion that libraries are simply book repositories, or places of quiet study.

Allegheny County Children Choose Their Favorites

Libraries in Allegheny County introduce thousands of children to new and quality literature each year through the Picture Book Children’s Choice Awards and the Children’s Choice Awards provided by the Allegheny County Library Association. Both programs also help libraries build and sustain partnerships with their local school districts.

Families Learn While They Do Laundry

Butterflies Flock to Libraries

The Allegheny County Library Association collaborated with the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh this past summer to offer painting sessions for the Butterfly Project. The Butterfly Project is a San Diego-based initiative with the goal of having one ceramic butterfly painted for each of the 1.5 million children killed in the Holocaust.
