Cataloger (Cumberland County Library System)

Leadership, communication, and organizational skills paired with an aptitude for database administration are qualities of an ideal candidate. Experience using modern cataloging standards and tools in Sierra and producing relevant statistical reports is expected.

This is a management and supervisory position requiring a Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution, 3 years working experience in cataloging services and database maintenance (preferably in public libraries) and at least 2 years supervisory experience.

Hours are generally 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday – Friday. The position is exempt from overtime pay. The primary workplace is a quiet office space in the library system headquarters office at 400 Bent Creek Blvd, Mechanicsburg, PA. Telework is an occasional option.

The starting salary is just over $49,000 annually ($25.15 hourly) with opportunities for annual performance-based raises and cost of living adjustments.

Benefits include medical, vision and dental insurance (all with options for no out of paycheck costs), county retirement pension, and paid time off (vacation, sick, personal, and 12 paid holidays.)

Additional benefits include paid personal membership in the Pennsylvania Library Association, paid opportunities for continuing education, an employee assistance program, flexible health spending account, dependent care account, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance. There is free parking, free hot beverages in our kitchen, and a comfortable work environment.

You’ll have your own office with a door, computer and phone line. You’ll work with 7 fantastic independent libraries (8 locations), and 16 fellow headquarters staff members who deliver collection services, computer services, development assistance, staff training, homebound services and administrative support to member libraries.

Our headquarters office is not located in a library, and our staff are not tucked in a basement room. Watch the seasons change out our big bright windows that overlook the Blue Mountain Ridge. When you’re not at work, you’ll have access to restaurants of many cultures, great shopping (major retailers, small downtown shops, multiple farm markets, outlet stores, etc.), and high-quality entertainment venues for concerts, theatre, baseball, hockey and more. The office has easy access to I-81, the PA Turnpike, and Amtrak. Airports like MDT, BWI, DCA, IAD, and PHL are all reasonable distances. Philly, DC, Baltimore, and Penn State are all driving accessible in fewer than 2 hours. Get out and hike the Appalachian Trail just minutes from the office, or kayak practically from the parking lot; go fly-fishing after work, or take in a round of disc golf nearby. History is strong in the area: visit Gettysburg, Harrisburg, and Lancaster PA in very short drives. And don’t forget the sweetest place on earth – Hershey, PA. Take in all the state capital region has to offer in an area where cost of living is reasonable and communities are small enough to care.

The application deadline is December 1, 2022. You must apply online through the Cumberland County Government website. A resume, cover letter and three references should be attached to the application.
