National Library Week 2022

National Library Week (April 3- 9, 2022) is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers’ contributions and promote library use and support.

The theme for National Library Week 2022 is “Connect With Your Library.”

During the pandemic, library workers continue to exceed their communities’ demands and adapt resources and services to meet their users’ needs during these challenging times. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer endless opportunities to transform lives through education and lifelong learning.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.

There are several celebrations taking place during National Library Week.

On April 5, the nation will celebrate National Library Workers Day, a time to recognize library staff members for their public service contributions in transforming lives and communities through education and lifelong learning. We encourage you to Share Your Library Story to recognize the important role that libraries and library staff have played in your own life.

April 6 is National Library Outreach Day (formally National Bookmobile Day) communities will celebrate the invaluable role dedicated library professionals play in meeting their patrons where they are. Locally, we will be celebrating the role that ACLA Mobile Library Services fills for our preschoolers, seniors and communities.

April 6 is also Library Giving Day, a one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their local library. To donate, please visit ACLA’s Donor Portal to find the library of your choice.

On April 7, everyone is encouraged to get involved in Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates in support of libraries. Please consider volunteering your time and energy to your local library’s board and governance by visiting The Talent Bank to submit your name for consideration.
