Part-Time Youth Program Coordinator (Carnegie Library of Homestead)

This is a contracted, temporary position, funded by a grant through December 31, 2023. If successful, we will seek additional funding to extend the contract for an additional 12-24 months. The position is a combination of shifts: 2-7pm during the school year and summer hours could range from 12-5pm or 2-7pm, with an occasional evening and/or Saturday shift.

Job Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator is a position which plans and executes youth programming and outreach for the Carnegie of Homestead. This position is responsible for planning, organizing or coordinating, and implementing specific programs and activities based on the community’s needs and interests. The Program Coordinator is responsible for partnering with schools, community organizations, program providers and other agencies to deliver programming that promotes the mission of the Carnegie of Homestead. This position works in partnership with the Library’s Program Coordinator and
under the dual supervision of the Library Director and Athletic Club Director.

  • Develops and executes programming and special community-related events; Programs include but not limited to literacy promotion; S.T.E.A.M. programs and workshops; Physical and recreational activities (i.e.kickball, basketball, etc.); Health and wellness programs (healthy cooking / eating, emotional support workshops)
  • Represents Carnegie of Homestead at community events and outreach opportunities.
  • Helps develop marketing ideas for dual programming and services, inclusive of social media and flyers. Contributes to newsletters, monthly flyers, and other publications.

Communication

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Uses diplomacy and tact to establish and maintain relationships with patrons, volunteers and staff.

Education and Experience
Candidates must have:
? High school diploma or equivalent. Associate degree or higher a plus.
? The ability to understand and support COH policies and procedures. Ability to use computers and relevant office software, PDA’s, and basic sports equipment.
? Prior youth programming experience in a library, community center, afterschool program, or athletic club is a plus. Education, fitness, and/or lifeguard certification is a plus. Military experience is a plus.
? Must have reliable transportation as most outreach sites are not on public transportation routes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, lift and/or move up to 50lbs., carry, reach, push and pull. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for employment. Employee is subject to a criminal background and youth clearance check prior to their first day of employment.

Organization Background

For 125 years, the mission of the Carnegie Library of Homestead continues to provide programs and facilities that enhance learning, wellness and quality of life within and outside the Steel Valley. Unique from other libraries, the Carnegie Library of Homestead, also known as the “Carnegie of Homestead,” includes a Music Hall, Library, and Athletic Club. The Music Hall has a seat capacity of 1,050, and annually hosts 50-60 performances by nationally recognized artists. The Library offers many programs for all ages– children through adults; and partners with local and regional organizations to bring relevant services and opportunities to community families. The Athletic Club includes several fitness-related amenities, including a pool, gymnasium, indoor baseball/softball training area and full-service exercise facility. Currently, there are approximately 1,100 members. The communities we serve, located 5 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, encompass a population of 18,000, of which 35% have library cards. The Carnegie enjoys, on average, 733 people per day.
