Program Director PT (Clairton Public Library)

The Clairton Public Library, in partnership with the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA), is seeking a part-time (30 hours/week) Program Director to help guide this growing library into a community destination for literacy and education.  

The successful Program Director will develop deep community relations throughout the City of Clairton, with strong focus on working with the Clairton School District. The Program Director will work with the Library Director and Library Staff to develop and plan innovative library programming opportunities for all ages, with the goal of increasing library usage and program attendance. Additionally, the Program Director will work closely with the Library Director as they move toward occupation of a new library space in the coming year. They will help plan out the use of that space in ways that encourage increased library usage for people of all ages. 

This is an exciting opportunity to make an impact in the City of Clairton. The Program Director will work with the Clairton Public Library, ACLA and community partners to identify the needs of the community and best ways the library can help to address those gaps, in particular as they move into the new space. The ideal candidate will be curious, collaborative, self-motivated, creative, and deeply committed to improving the lives of those in Clairton through access to a strong 21st century public library.  

The position will include both in-person work at the Clairton Public Library and meetings throughout the City as well as some remote work. The role will require the individual is able to travel to and from Clairton and attend meetings throughout the city.  

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications: 

  • Masters Degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program or be currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited program 
  • Previous library-related experience 
  • Experience working with community partners 
  • All relevant clearances required (State Police, Child Abuse, Federal Criminal History, National Sex Offender Registry).
