HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY LOCAL LIBRARY?
Libraries are cornerstones of their communities. Every day, we hear how our communities value the collections, resources, programs and spaces their local library provides. We are so grateful for the support that our patrons bring to our libraries during National Library Week in April, Love Your Library Month in September, and all year round.
If you love your library (and we know you do!), here are six easy ways to show your support.
Use Your Library Card
Using your library card is the easiest way to show your support for your library! You can borrow a wide range of resources with your library card: books, ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, graphic novels, and more. Library cards are FREE to Allegheny County residents.
Attend Library Events
There’s always something exciting going on at your local library! Learn how to digitize family photos, get help with your resume, join a book club, or bring your little one to story time. Allegheny County libraries have programs for all ages and interests.
Engage on Social Media
Social media is a great way to keep up with what’s happening at your library. See a great post about a library resource or event? Give it a like and share it! A strong social media following helps libraries expand our reach to all members of our community.
Make a Donation
Donations from community members like you keep our libraries’ doors open. Visit aclalibraries.org/donate to make a donation online. Check your local library’s website to learn about upcoming fundraisers and book sales!
Contact Elected Officials
Call or email your local and state elected officials and tell them how much your library means to you. Allegheny County libraries rely on funding from local and state government to provide the services that our communities need.
Volunteer Your Time
Volunteers are a huge help at many libraries in Allegheny County. Friends of the Library groups sponsor programs, organize fundraisers, and support library staff. Want to join a library board? Apply to ACLA’s Talent Bank.
