Job Summary:  Drives bookmobile through a scheduled route; loads and unloads materials and check out materials for customers; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  1. Drives bookmobile throughout Allegheny County, maintaining a timely schedule;
  2. Perform circulation duties such as checking materials in and out and registering customers for library cards;
  3. Loads and unloads materials from the bookmobile daily;
  4. Hooks up power supply at bookmobile stops (where applicable);
  5. Reports any mechanical problems on the vehicle to the Operations Manager;
  6. Ability to perform a pre-trip vehicle inspection and check fluids as required;
  7. Helps patrons on and off bookmobile;
  8. Ensures proper paperwork is always on bookmobile and trash is emptied at the end of the day;
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

           

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Ability to gain working knowledge of ACLA’s policies and procedures;
  2. Knowledge of basic traffic laws;
  3. Ability to operate the bookmobile in a safe manner;
  4. Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills;
  5. PC skills;
  6. Knowledge of city and county roadways;
  7. Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations pertaining to the operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle;
  8. Ability to pass a D.O.T. physical and required drug testing as outlined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

 

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or G.E.D.;
  2. Six months to one year of related experience;
  3. Requires a valid Pennsylvania CDL driver’s license with proper endorsements/restrictions for operation of vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 or more pounds equipped with air brakes.

 

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work demands occasional strenuous effort.  For example, handling of moderately heavy boxes, moderately heavy tools, equipment or materials of 30 to 60 pounds.

The work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g. working around moving parts, carts, or machines; may require working in adverse weather conditions.
