Penn Hills Library is seeking an engaging leader who will mentor staff, design and implement creative adult and family programs and services, and curate inclusive, high-quality collections.

 

This position is ideal for a person who is ready to share innovative ideas and build relationships that will enrich the lives of community members.

 

What you will do:

  • Work with the leadership team to maintain high quality standards for service by participating in the development of equitable library policies and procedures, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ensure staff are delivering outstanding service by teaching, coaching and leading by example.
  • Build long lasting relationships by engaging with the community and developing strong lines of communication.
  • Provide reader’s advisory, genealogy, and reference assistance.
  • Promote library services and resources through creative displays and marketing.
  • Develop and implement innovative programming and outreach for adults.
  • Evening and weekend work for community and special events, as needed, is expected.

 

What you will need:

  • Knowledge of current library practices and ability to anticipate future trends, including best practices in reference service.
  • Ability to lead effective meetings- facilitation skills.
  • Skilled in organizing, prioritizing, delegating, and providing multiple kinds of services.
  • Ability to excel as a productive and positive team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, patrons, and the public
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent public service and teamwork
  • Master’s degree in Library Science preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience working in public libraries will also be given serious consideration.

 

What would be great:

  • Familiarity with the social services network and how to engage with it.
  • Confidence in building a referral network of peers both in and out of the library field.
  • At least 3 years of public library experience.
  • Community involvement in previous work or personal experience.

 

Job Type: Full-time, benefits, including evenings and weekends

 

Salary: $50,000
