National Library Week (April 19-25) is celebrated annually to highlight the valuable contributions of libraries and library professionals in the lives of their patrons and in their communities.

This year’s theme is “Find Joy.” Mychal Threets, author, illustrator and the new host of Reading Rainbow is the honorary chair. Both the theme and Threets promote the idea of finding joy at the library. Throughout the week, there are daily observances, including Right to Read Day (Monday), National Library Workers Day (Tuesday), National Library Outreach Day (Wednesday) and Take Action for Libraries Day (Thursday).

Oakmont Carnegie Library, one of the 46 county libraries, in Allegheny County recently showcased their library on Pittsburgh Today Live with Books & Beyond. At this location, patrons can browse The Squirrel’s Nest Bookstore, visit the garden, create in the MakerSpace or try different toys in the playroom. Children’s librarian Kelsey Grushecky highlighted the fact that all are welcome!

This month’s book of the month is Same by Instagram poet Hannah Rosenberg (@hannarowrites). This moving collection of poems resonates with readers across many stages of life—exploring themes of marriage, motherhood, friendship, and the meaningful connections we build along the way. Go find joy at your library this week and throughout the year! Happy National Library Week!
