Library Assistant- Children’s Services
Penn Hills Library is seeking a Library Assistant to assist the Youth Services Librarian with the daily operations of the Children’s Department.
What you will do:
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for library patrons as well as track feedback and suggestions that enrich Children’s services and programs
- Support children Birth-11 and their families in finding library materials, provide reader’s advisory, answer reference questions, promote library events and effectively engage with library patrons
- Ensure spaces in the Children’s Department are tidy, organized and ready for patron use
- Promote materials and programs in the Children’s Department, including creating displays and book lists as needed
- Assist library users with any library resources and technology including Internet resources, copy machines, printers, etc. Support positive relationships with Children’s services partners including schools and daycare providers and other organizations in the community as needed
- Assist in the development and presentation, as well as set-up and break-down of children’s, family, and all age programs and special events as needed both in the library and off-site under the guidance of the Youth Services Librarian
What you will need:
- An interest and passion for fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and their families, as well as providing equitable library services
- Ability to work all hours of library operations including evenings and some Saturdays
- Ability to work and interact effectively with youth and families, and build and maintain positive relationships
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-based setting
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to a wide variety of library users
- Ability to use office equipment including a copy and fax machine as well as computer systems and databases (Microsoft Suite, Internet, online databases)
- Willingness to adapt to changing environments and situations, as well as work efficiently in a fast-paced Children’s Department
- A desire to learn new tasks and receive constructive feedback

Pay: $41,000.00 per year
