A Word From Our CEO, Amy Anderson: Libraries are here to support students going back to school

There are three words that produce a wide variety of emotions this time of year: back to school. While those words might bring sadness into the hearts of some and joy to others, the Allegheny County Library Association want you to know that we have your back, no matter how you feel!

Our public libraries know how important education is to our communities, so the library staff work hard every day to make sure that they are there to provide support and assistance to all of our students, teachers, and parents. Through Allegheny County public libraries, students can access a wealth of information from both our print and electronic resources. The wealth of books and materials throughout the county are available to every library card holder and our e-resources can even be accessed from home. Many of our school districts have partnered with ACLA and their local public library to provide library cards to each and every student in their district, making access to these vital resources easier than ever. Librarians even make themselves available to teachers across the county by providing resources to supplement our wonderful school libraries and classrooms and even visiting schools, preschools, and daycares where needed.

And while all of this back-to-school craziness is going on, don’t forget to take some time to relax and unwind with a good book. ACLA libraries have great books for all ages to enjoy when they need a break from studying (and for the adults who might find some quiet time they didn’t have over the summer).

So, whether it is reading for school or reading for pleasure, our public libraries will have everything you need to succeed. We look forward to working with everyone to make sure that this school year is the best one yet!
