December 13, 2016 In 1991, Frank Lucchino, then Controller of Allegheny County, issued a special report – “A Quiet Crisis: Libraries in Allegheny County.” This nearly 100-page report offered an in-depth discussion on the state of the libraries in Allegheny County and the problems each of the independent institutions faced.
Carnegie Council Forges Historic Agreement to Ensure Library’s Long Term Viability
At its December 12 meeting Carnegie Council voted to forge a 20-year contract with the Andrew Carnegie Free Library. The vote was unanimous. The contract gives the Library stable and appropriate funding for the next 20 years, essentially making the Library viable for the first time in its 115-year history.
